What's new with the Web? 4/16/2008
Gateways
- Netvibes: A double-sided portal that allows for public and private views, as well as friending associates.
- iGoogle: A personal page with no external web presence. Content can be organized into tabs, Google App integration is a plus.
- Mahalo: A human edited search engine, with the goal of having 10,000 handcrafted result pages for the most popular topics. Firefox toolbar allows users to create user and topic pages.
- Shyftr: RSS reader that allows users to share and comment on each other's feed items.

What is Web 2.0?
A wave of new Web sites (as well as some not so new ones) that focus on the user experience, focusing primarily through three areas:
- Socialization: The ability for users to interact with one another, easily sharing collective information.
- Collaboration: The ability to work on long-distance projects in a variety of ways.
- Web Services: Almost all Web 2.0 have "Web services" through which they share their information with other sites.

Network Redesign Brown Bag
The current campus network infrastructure is near the end of its planned life cycle, and for the past 6 months, ITS network staff have been working on a design for the next generation network. The campus is invited to join John O'Keefe and Mike Costello for an overview of what's been planned so far, to ask questions, and to make recommendations for further development of the plan prior to its presentation for approval. The event will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Skillman Library Room 004. Lunch will be provided.
