Sooo Good If You Don't Look At It.........

After another much needed, yet successful trip to the amazing Wegman’s supermarket, my friends and I obviously started munching on our groceries as soon as we got in the car. My one friend turns around in the passenger’s seat and holds out the container she was picking from to me, a generous gesture. Instinctively reaching out to grab a sample, I looked down at what exactly I was about to ingest, finding what looked like half melted blocks of white something with a dark something else sprinkled on top and another something that was slightly slimy. Usually being an adventurous eater, I was taken aback, having to pause and contemplate whether I really wanted to… do that. But, after an almost insulted glare from my friend, I, perhaps out of fear of my friend's face, reached in as if the container was full of (insert something that is unpleasant to you here), and took a bite. To my surprise, it was a little like cold, slimy, sponge pizza, but delicious, and definitely a new, future purchase at the Weg’s.
If you’re wondering what this mystery food was, it was seasoned tofu, something I’ve had before, but one of those things that is always surprising to look at, no matter how many times you’ve eaten it before. But aren’t those sometimes the best foods? The ones that are so extremely unappetizing to look at that you almost can’t eat it but when you do it’s a bite of heaven?
Another example would be, every time I go to a baseball game, it is absolutely necessary that I get a ballpark hot dog (more specifically Yankee Stadium). Even if I’m not hungry, or hot, or annoyed because my team is losing, I must get a ball park hot dog. As tasty as these are though, they are disgusting to look at, I know this because I by accident caught a glance at the inside of one. You would think this might scar me from eating them, but this is one situation when my taste buds completely override my vision and health consciousness.
I might be wrong, but I think that everyone has their "embarrassing to admit I eat that because I can’t even look at it while I’m eating it but it’s just sooo good" food. I consider mine almost like comfort foods, 1. because they are delicious, and 2. because it’s something that I consider mine, that no one else favors as much as I do. Is anyone with me on that? I might just be blabbing by now, but I think it’s one thing about food that might be considered a form of self expression, one’s own particular preference that might be unique compared to what is considered conventional.

is the idea of food as guilty pleasure: Unapologetic indulgence in something that perhaps in more rational circumstances you would not indulge in. Guilty pleasures often arise out of situational eating. For example, I KNOW how much oil funnel cakes get fried in, but I can't seem to resist having one when I am at an outdoor venue that sells them.

I'm curious about the experience of eating the seasoned tofu. What kind of pizza did it taste like? How did it smell? And what else can you eat it with?

It wasn't really a specific kind of pizza...the first thing that came to mind when I took a bite was pizza. My friend disagreed but I at least thought it did! I didn't get a good sniff because I just went right in for the kill. As for what else you could eat with it...it was kind of spicy so maybe some kind of salad that could use a little flavor but would balance out the spiciness. I'm not very good with matching up foods, so maybe discount what I just said...haha.
